05.12.202513:39:01UTC+00Canada Adds More Jobs than Expected

In November 2025, Canada's employment surged by 54,000 or 0.3%, exceeding market expectations which had anticipated a decline of 5,000 jobs. This follows a noteworthy increase of 66,600 jobs in October. The rise in employment was primarily driven by a significant increase in part-time positions, totaling 63,000 (+1.6%), which more than compensated for a 9,000 reduction in full-time employment. Employment experienced notable gains in several sectors: health care and social assistance saw an increase of 46,000 (+1.6%), accommodation and food services added 14,000 jobs (+1.2%), and the natural resources sector grew by 11,000 (+3.4%). Conversely, the wholesale and retail trade sector saw a decrease of 34,000 jobs (-1.1%). On a regional level, Alberta witnessed a rise in employment with an addition of 29,000 jobs (+1.1%), New Brunswick gained 5,500 positions (+1.4%), and Manitoba saw an increase of 4,500 jobs (+0.6%), while employment levels remained relatively unchanged in Ontario and Quebec. The cumulative job growth from September to November, totaling 181,000 (+0.9%), marked a rebound after a measured start to the year with minimal net employment changes from January through August.
