2026.09.1712:30:00UTC+00Canadian Investors Turn Net Sellers of Foreign Securities in July, Swinging C$66 Billion from June High

Canadians sharply reversed their exposure to foreign markets in July 2026, shifting from heavy net purchases to sizable net sales of foreign securities, according to data updated on 17 September 2026. Foreign securities purchases by Canadian investors fell from a net inflow of C$35.430 billion in June 2026 to a net outflow of C$30.630 billion in July 2026.

The move represents a swing of more than C$66 billion in just one month, marking a notable change in cross-border investment behaviour. While June’s figure reflected strong demand for foreign assets, July’s negative reading indicates that Canadian investors, on balance, sold off more foreign securities than they bought, reducing their net exposure to overseas markets during the period.
