17.09.202600:46:35UTC+00Japanese Shares Rise After Fed Decision

The Nikkei 225 Index rose 0.5% to move above 64,200, while the broader Topix Index gained 1% to reach 4,100 on Thursday, extending the previous session’s advance even after the US Federal Reserve raised interest rates and signaled further tightening to curb inflation. The yen weakened against the dollar following the Fed’s decision, bolstering the earnings outlook for Japan’s export-oriented sectors. Japanese stocks also drew support from falling oil prices, amid expectations that crude shipments via Saudi Arabia’s East–West pipeline will resume soon, easing pressure on Japan’s oil-dependent economy. Gains were broad-based, with notable advances from major index constituents including SoftBank Group (up 1.2%), Mitsubishi UFJ (0.6%), Fujikura (2.7%), Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (3.1%) and Nintendo (3.3%).
